The 有 (yǒu) sentence
有字句
Say what someone has, what exists somewhere, or ask about quantity.
Pattern
A + 有 + B
Say what someone has, what exists somewhere, or ask about quantity.
How it works
有 shows possession or existence: A 有 B means “A has B” or “there is B in A”. It is not the same as 是.
Negate 有 with 没有, never 不有. Ask a yes/no question with 吗, and answer with 有 or 没有.
For existence at a place, put the place first: 桌子上有一本书. Do not use 有 with adjectives; use an adjective predicate instead.
Examples
Common mistakes
我不有车。
我没有车。
Negate 有 with 没有, not 不有.
桌子上是一个杯子。
桌子上有一个杯子。
For existence, use 有. 是 would identify the cup, not say it is there.
