The 被 (bèi) passive
被字句
Say that something is done to the subject, often an unexpected or unfortunate event.
Pattern
主语(受事) + 被 + 施事 + 动词 + 其他
Say that something is done to the subject, often an unexpected or unfortunate event.
How it works
被 marks the passive: 杯子被弟弟打破了. The subject is affected by the action; the doer can be left out when it is unknown or unimportant: 杯子被打破了.
The verb needs a result or particle after it: 打破, 拿走, 放在…, 吹开. A bare verb at the end is wrong.
Negation and adverbs go before 被: 我的书没被拿走. Ask 你的手机被谁拿走了?
