By using HanziSkills you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. The dictionary is provided free of charge for personal and educational use.

The service

HanziSkills provides Chinese character and word information, stroke animations, pronunciation audio and optional accounts for saving favourites. The service is provided “as is” and may change, be interrupted or be discontinued.

Dictionary accuracy

Dictionary data comes from open, community-maintained sources and may contain errors, omissions or outdated readings. It is a learning aid, not an authoritative reference for academic, legal or professional decisions. If you find an error, please report it to [email protected].

Accounts

• Provide a valid email address and keep your password secure.
• You are responsible for activity under your account.
• Do not use the service to store unlawful, abusive or infringing content.
• We may suspend or delete accounts that abuse the service or the audio endpoint.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the service, bypass rate limits, scrape at a volume that affects other users, or use the pronunciation endpoint for unrelated text-to-speech workloads. Automated access to the public dictionary is permitted at a reasonable rate; bulk redistribution of the data must respect the underlying licences described on the About page.

Intellectual property

The site’s original code and design are owned by HanziSkills. Dictionary definitions and conversion data remain subject to the licences of their upstream projects, including CC-CEDICT (CC BY-SA 4.0), Make Me a Hanzi and the Arphic Public License, OpenCC (Apache 2.0) and wordfreq (Apache 2.0). Attribution notices are kept on the About page.

No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HanziSkills makes no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the dictionary or the audio.

Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. The effective date at the top of the page will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
